Philosophy Statement

VISION

We help our baseball and softball players grow and mature by giving them opportunities to learn new skills and meet new challenges. Successes are praised while mistakes are corrected with discretion, patience and a positive attitude. Every youngster, regardless of skill level, is valued as a person and is readily accepted as a contributing member of the team. We conduct our practices and our games to show respect for both the needs of the individual and the needs of the team.

VALUES

Sports is a powerful medium for helping youngsters learn important life lessons. Baseball and softball teach participants about planning and preparation, persistence and perseverance, and most importantly, cooperation and the spirit of team play. By engaging in healthy competition in a sportsmanlike environment, our young players learn these lessons.

POSITION ON COMPETITION

Challenge and competition are a natural part of sports and of life. Indeed, competition is part of what makes baseball and softball fun. However, an excessive desire to win can take the fun out of the game. Winning should never be more important than fair play. Since our mission is to teach the values that children will need to succeed as adults, we will avoid any practice that teaches winning at the expense of fair play.

Engaging in competition teaches young people to increase their effort and focus. Engaging in healthy competition teaches young people to increase their effort and focus without resorting to foul play. Parents and coaches alike must be personally committed, both by word and in action, to teaching our youngsters the values that will enable them to become winners in life.

Field Use Guidelines for Coaches

Please use common sense when making the decision to hold practice on stormy days. Our program is only as good as our fields, so let this be your rule of thumb:

For school district fields, BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL ARE CANCELED IF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT PRACTICES ARE CANCELED!

If you need further guidance on weekdays, call Paul Tagliaterra at 610-892-3461 regarding the Middle School fields, and Chip Carroll at 610-892-3434 with questions about the High School Fields. Decisions on field closings are made by 1:00 pm. On weekends, please call the Nether Baseball Field Coordinator, John McCullough, at 484-995-9398.

For Township fields, discretion is mandatory. The safety of the players is of the utmost importance. The integrity of the fields must also be considered.
