Capital Improvement Campaign

UpdatedThursday January 23, 2020 byDave Shuster.

At last week’s Nether Swarthmore Baseball and Softball public meeting, league president Dave Shuster announced some of the most exciting news in our league’s history.  Starting next season, baseball will be played under the lights at our Majors field at Urban Park!  This is a huge step forward for our league, giving our 11 and 12 year-olds the opportunity to play much more baseball during the season on our only 50-70 field and giving us the ability to host tournaments and other fun events under the lights.

Over the past year, a group led by former Board President Eddie Bonett and current Board Vice President Mike Keller has worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality.  The most significant step, accomplished with the support of local political leaders as well, was securing a state grant of $133,000, which covers roughly two-thirds of the total project cost.  Mike also won a $15,000 grant from Babe Ruth Baseball – one of only four Babe Ruth grants awarded nationally – and, in the last 30 days, generous NSBS Board members have personally contributed another $25,000.

This leaves us with just $25,000 more to raise to ensure that Opening Day 2020 will be played under the lights at Urban.  We have started a Capital Campaign not just to reach this immediate goal but also to raise an additional $50,000 to make improvements to our facilities and equipment at every age level.

Please consider making Nether Swarthmore Baseball and Softball a part of your year-end giving this year.  Click here to make your on-line donation of $50 (single), $100 (double), $250 (triple) or $500 (home run)! Gifts can also be sent to Campaign to Improve Urban, NSBS, PO Box 96, Swarthmore, PA 19081.

Your contribution will be tax deductible and, most importantly, it will go directly to helping our kids create memories to last a lifetime.  Please share this email with family, friends, former players and anyone you know who supports baseball in our community.

Thank you and best wishes to everyone this holiday season.
